(an answer to April Rain Song)

It would seem that some believe in
giving April Showers some fame,
That an aria is needed
to glorify the rain,
But I dodge the rain’s caresses
And I do not want its kiss
Silver drops that mock my tresses?
Tell me who would sing of this?
All that plip-plop, splish-splash-sploshing
couldn’t even lull the dead,
It should quit this daytime sloshing
and just wait β€˜til I’m in bed.
And April’s hardly random;
Every month is much the same,
For I’m in ruddy London,
And I chuffing hate the rain!

napo2014button2This poem was written for NaPoWriMo. Today’s prompt was to re-write a famous poem. I chose to write an answer April Rain Song by Langston Hughes. His original poem is below:

April Rain Song

Let the rain kiss you
Let the rain beat upon your head with silver liquid drops
Let the rain sing you a lullaby
The rain makes still pools on the sidewalk
The rain makes running pools in the gutter
The rain plays a little sleep song on our roof at night
And I love the rain.
